HISTORY & CHARACTER
Tea cultivation and the hill-country railway shaped the wider landscape. Modern tourism grew around walking routes, the Ella Gap and railway landmarks such as the Nine Arches Bridge.

This ridge walk opens views across the surrounding Ella hills and valleys. Choose the walk when conditions and visibility suit; allow extra time for wet steps and paths.
A higher viewpoint walk offers another perspective on the Ella Gap and surrounding landscape. Plan this more substantial walk with a clear route and local guidance. Turn back if visibility deteriorates.

Water descends over a rocky face beside the road below Ella. Use an appropriate public viewpoint. Avoid climbing wet rocks or entering unfamiliar pools.
